SouthBrook Update - April 20

City Lights Update

Hello SouthBrook!

Church is an amazing thing, yes, groups of Christ-followers doing their best to love themselves and thy neighbor. This is the heart and soul of City Lights. A new way of connecting people to Christ and each other, where love can be felt through care, community and connection.  SouthBrook, you have been doing this! In the last several weeks the most vulnerable have been fed, prayed over, provided for, and connected to the love of Christ! Keep up the good work, this won't stop when "this is all over" it will be our new way of doing things. It will be our way of connecting people! Regionally and city wide we will be mobilizing neighbors to build community through connection and care. We hope you will join us because everyone will find a place to belong inside City Lights!

We made a big promise this week, one that we felt compelled to make after watching our community be in such dire need and watching your generosity of the last month. This promise was to DOUBLE the number of families we would support with food supplies on April 29th. We know this is a big ask, it's a lot of food to supply, but we feel like it's the right thing to do for our community-there are some very hungry people out there. We heard a few stories this weekend where a family hadn't eaten in days. Because of this, boxes were delivered to them as fast as possible.

Attached is the updated grocery list. You can bring it to SouthBrook Monday-Thursday from 10-6pm and Sat/Sun from 10-4pm. If you cannot get supplies here you can donate online at southbrook.org or have your grocery list shipped to church!

Keep checking the blog for updates, as we will put out a signup genius for our food deliveries on April 29th.

Thank you for your prayers, your patience through this pandemic and your spirit of tenacity as we fight to stay in good health and good spirits!

Weekend Changes

We have never experienced the volume of societal change like we have in the last month. It is a compressed and accelerated shift that reflects what our society has been going through in the last thirteen years, particularly, with the advent of the smartphone.

Put simply: Our world is more digital than ever.

As a result, we have decided that when we return to gathering we are going to keep Saturday night at 5:30 as a digital only experience. We are taking down the walls of Saturday night church. We want to unleash SouthBrook to our City Lights movement on the two biggest social nights of the week, Friday AND Saturday.

We are going to go live in person for THREE services on Sunday. In addition to our live 9:30 and 11:30, we are adding a live 8:30 in the Reverie, which will not have childcare.

For the present, our online weekend experience will remain 5:30 on Saturday and 10:00 on Sunday.

I believe God has prepared us for this season and we want to capitalize on the opportunities before us (Ephesians 5:15-16)! I have had a front row seat to His shepherding of our church for many years now and I see this gentle shepherding in this season.

It is a significant move. And I’m very excited about the possibilities of experiencing our mission: To connect people to Christ, not religion.
