Job’s friends said to him, “Job, if you’re suffering badly, you must have brought it on yourself. If you’ll just repent and get right with God, you won’t suffer, because God doesn’t ever let good people to suffer.” When have you fallen for this inaccuracy, where did it come from and how did it affect your view of God?
Job says, “I wish I could take God to court. I wish I could sue him.” When in your life did you want to sue God? What comfort does it give you that Job’s story- including his struggle with God- is in the Bible?
G0d never answers Job’s question of why. Why is this a constant reality of loss?
In the end, after Job has expressed doubt and challenge, and after God has revealed himself to Job, Job says, “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.” God was Job’s reward for his painful journey. What will it take for you to go the next step toward, “You’re enough for me, God. Now, I know I can trust you”?
Sometimes the truth does not help. Sometimes, it really is all about a relationship with God. What is God saying to you right now and what are you going to do about it?
